What is FossilPlot?
FossilPlot is a spreadsheet application for making graphs of the diversity and stratigraphic ranges of Phanerozoic marine animals. It builds on the compendium of marine genera published by Sepkoski (2002) and makes these data available, accessible and practical for teaching concepts in evolution.

Is FossilPlot for me?
If you teach courses in paleontology at the college or university level, this program is designed for you and your students. FossilPlot is a remarkably versatile class resource and can be integrated into undergraduate and graduate course curricula. FossilPlot operates in MS-Excel for PC or MAC, and it is easy to use – students can generate their own graphs within the first few minutes of being introduced to the program.

How do I get FossilPlot?
This freeware program and its supporting documents are designed for educational purposes. Please respect the sources used in this program by properly citing Sepkoski (2002) and Tapanila (2007). The software is free and meant for educational purposes.

New! FossilPlot version 1.1 is now available.
